When Do I Know It’s An Emergency?

If you are unsure if you find yourself in a dental emergency, do not hesitate to call and speak to our New Braunfels staff to explore your options. Keep in mind, if you think it is a dental emergency, it probably is.

If you are experiencing one of the above dental emergencies and our New Braunfels staff is not immediately available to assist you, read below to see if any of these common situations apply to you:

Injuries to Teeth

When a tooth is chipped, it is up to your discretion as to when to repair the chip if there is no pain. Often times, it can be easily cosmetically corrected.

However, if a filling or artificial tooth is chipped, it must be replaced.

Cracked or broken teeth must be repaired as soon as possible, otherwise they can cause further damage.

Tooth Knocked Out

If a tooth is knocked out, immediately retrieve it and preserve it. This is best done by rinsing it off in milk or contact lens solution. Do not attempt to wipe it off with a cloth.

Keep the tooth as moist as possible until you can transport it to our New Braunfels office. Soak it in milk or your own saliva, or store it in your mouth between the cheek and the gums.

It is important to visit our New Braunfels office as soon as possible if you find yourself in this sort of dental emergency, preferably the same day of the incident. If you are not, you may attempt to slip the tooth back into its socket without excessive force.

Extruded Tooth

This is a tooth that is partially dislodged, loose, or partway out of its socket. If the tooth is not broken, it may still be saved.

It is extremely important to get to our New Braunfels office as soon as possible if you find yourself in this predicament.
